Pop Goes the Sinner
Try this interactive lesson to demonstrate what Jesus did on the cross.
Unroll two rolls of bubble wrap and line up two teams. Say, “Let’s race! The
first team across the bubble wrap wins!” Explain that kids can’t step off the wrap—and
to pop a bubble is a sin.
Pop after pop, kids might get frustrated. After three minutes, ask, “What was
challenging about this game?” Read Romans 3:23. Then ask, “How was trying to not
pop a bubble like not trying to sin?”
Read Romans 5:8. Say, “This is what Jesus did when He died on the cross.”
Have volunteer pick up a child and carry him or her across the bubble wrap. Explain that
the child’s feet didn’t touch the bubble wrap; only Jesus’ feet did. Ask, “What do you
think about what Jesus did for us?”
End with prayer, thanking Jesus for His sacrifice. ~Karis Needham, Tallahassee,
Florida.
Tag In, Tag Out
Try this quick game to break the ice.
Form groups of about five or six. Have each group stand in a circle and then
silently think of their favorites—favorite food, cereal, movie, superhero, or song, for
example. Move one child to the middle of each circle and have the child say one
favorite: “My favorite ______________ is ______________.” If the middle child’s
favorite matches anyone else’s in the circle, the kids high five and switch places.
Continue around the circle until everyone has been in the middle at least once.
~Children’s Ministry Magazine, July/August 2011
I Am Special!
Use this activity to teach younger children how special they are!
Let kids use modeling dough to make faces. Ask specific colors, sizes, and
shapes they choose. For example, “Why did you give your person pink hair? A triangle
nose? A big smile?” Say, “God made you just the way He wanted to. God chose your
hair, skin, eyes, and even how tall you are. You’re special to God!”
Follow up with this song, sung to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know
It.” ~Janet Reeves, Midway, Georgia
I am special and I know it.
God made me!
I am special and I know it.
God made me!
God chose everything about me:
Eyes, skin, hair, nose—all you see.
I am special and I know it.
God made me!
